Portions of The Great Lawn at Zilker Park will be temporarily closed beginning Monday as crews perform scheduled maintenance, according to the Austin Parks and Recreation Department.

The closures are needed to allow staff to apply fertilizer across sections of the popular park.

The work is scheduled to take place daily from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, July 20, through Friday, July 24.

City officials said the temporary closures will only affect areas where maintenance is underway. Parking lots and park trails will remain open and accessible throughout the week.

"We ask that patrons avoid equipment in use and follow directions given by the staff," the City of Austin said in a statement.

Parks and Recreation officials encourage visitors to plan accordingly and use caution around maintenance crews and equipment while work is in progress.

The fertilizer application is part of the department's routine grounds maintenance program to help preserve the condition of The Great Lawn, one of Austin's most heavily used public green spaces.

Officials expect all affected areas to reopen once the maintenance work is complete.
