Some of Central Texas' youngest residents celebrated their first Independence Day in patriotic style as Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Round Rock dressed neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) babies in festive red, white, and blue outfits.

The hospital shared photos of the newborns ahead of the Fourth of July holiday, continuing a tradition that has become a favorite among patients' families and the community.

According to Baylor Scott & White, the hospital regularly features its "Tiniest Texans" during major holidays, dressing NICU babies in themed outfits to help families celebrate milestones even while their newborns receive specialized medical care.

Hospital officials said the holiday tradition is intended to bring comfort and joy to parents whose celebrations take place inside the hospital rather than at family gatherings or community events.

The patriotic outfits featured stars, stripes, and other Independence Day-themed accessories as the infants marked their first Fourth of July.

Baylor Scott & White has continued the tradition throughout the year, creating themed photo opportunities for holidays including Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween and Christmas.

The hospital said the seasonal celebrations are one way caregivers help families create lasting memories during what can be an emotional and challenging time in the NICU.

While many Texans are celebrating the nation's 250th birthday this holiday weekend, for these families, the occasion also marks a first Independence Day with their newest additions.
