The event occurred shortly after 6 p.m. local time in Liverpool City Centre, where a large crowd had assembled to witness the team's open-top bus parade. A 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area has been arrested by police at the scene. Authorities have indicated that they consider the crash to be an isolated event, with no links to terrorism.
In a dramatic turn of events, a vehicle came to a halt as irate fans vandalized its windows, prompting police to step in and ensure the driver's safety. Authorities have confirmed that there are no ongoing searches for additional suspects, according to Temporary Deputy Chief Constable Jenny Sims.
Emergency services acted promptly in response to the situation. The North West Ambulance Service reported that 27 individuals were taken to local hospitals, two of whom suffered serious injuries. Additionally, 20 others received treatment on-site for minor wounds. Four children were among those injured, and one is currently reported to be in serious condition.
According to Nick Searle, chief fire officer for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, first responders were required to lift the vehicle off four victims, one of whom was a child.
The ambulance service issued a statement addressing the situation: "This is an appalling incident, and we understand that people will be agitated.” Officials are collaborating with Merseyside Police and echoing their call for tranquility in the community.
