Rice, UT Austin rank in TIME’s top 50 universities worldwide

In a major achievement, two universities in Texas have been recognized in TIME Magazine's latest global university rankings, securing positions among the top 50 institutions worldwide. The rankings were unveiled in late January 2026.

Rice University in Houston ranks No. 24 globally with an overall score of 75.78. Meanwhile, the University of Texas at Austin follows closely behind at No. 37, earning a score of 70.72. Institutions were assessed through a comprehensive evaluation that considered their academic capacity and performance, innovation, economic impact, and global engagement.

Texas has been recognized as being on par with Ivy League schools and other prestigious institutions both in the United States and internationally.

Rice University’s impressive results highlight its achievements in various areas, notably in research output and international collaboration. UT Austin has garnered notable recognition for its robust innovation ecosystem and significant economic impact, influencing both state and global markets.

A recent report ranked Texas A&M University, often considered the University of Texas's in-state rival, at No. 219 globally.

The University of Oxford has secured the top position in the rankings, achieving an impressive overall score of 90.11. The top five institutions include Yale University, Stanford University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of Chicago. Harvard University has secured the sixth position.
