A man sustained critical injuries on Tuesday night when a tree collapsed onto a restaurant patio amid a storm in Austin, according to authorities.
Emergency crews arrived at Green Mesquite BBQ in South Austin at approximately 9:20 p.m. following reports of an individual trapped under a fallen tree.
Officials from Austin-Travis County EMS report that a fallen tree trapped the victim and caused critical injuries.
The Austin Fire Department has confirmed that firefighters were dispatched around the same time and played a crucial role in rescuing the man. Firefighters from Engine 11 were reported to have accompanied the patient in the ambulance during the transport to a local hospital, according to officials.
The Austin Police Department arrived at the scene to assist. Staff at the restaurant have confirmed the incident but have chosen not to provide additional comments. Authorities continue to collect witness statements, while further information regarding the victim's condition remains undisclosed.
The incident took place during a storm that swept through the Austin area, creating conditions that led to the tree's fall.
