A fire that tore through a popular West Sixth Street bar late last month has been ruled accidental, according to local officials.
The Austin Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at Bar Peached around 6:25 a.m. May 31. Crews arrived to find flames breaching through the roof of the building.
Firefighters quickly worked to contain the blaze, shutting down Pressler Street between Fifth and Sixth streets while emergency crews battled the fire. Authorities confirmed no one was inside the bar at the time.
The fire was brought under control and declared knocked down by approximately 6:51 a.m., officials said.
The Austin Firefighters Association later confirmed the cause of the fire was a malfunctioning refrigerator, ruling out any suspicious activity.
The building sustained significant damage, with a large portion of the roof collapsing due to the fire.
No injuries were reported.
Officials have not said when the business might reopen as damage assessments continue.
