While most of Texas got wet over Labor Day weekend, the capital city mostly avoided the rain. It will stay dry and sunny through the workday, but there is a chance of rain again this weekend.

The National Weather Service said that Austin will have clear skies and highs near 95 degrees on Tuesday, which is about the same as the average temperature in early September. Low temperatures will stay around 72 degrees tonight thanks to light winds from the northeast.

"It will be dry from Tuesday night through Friday," the weather service said in its estimate for Central and South Texas. "By the weekend, there is a chance of rain again because an upper-level disturbance will be moving across the area, according to the American GFS solution. The European forecast model, on the other hand, says it will stay dry."

More sunshine will come on Wednesday, when highs will reach 96 degrees. The hottest day will be Thursday, when it will reach almost 98 degrees. By Thursday night, winds from the south will be blowing in, making it more humid and cloudy. That will keep the lows above 73 degrees at night.

By Friday, it should be partly sunny, and the temperature will be back up around 98 degrees. More rain is likely because south winds of about 5 mph will keep pulling moisture from the Gulf into the country.

There is a 20% chance of showers on Saturday, but the sky will be mostly sunny. Even though it will be dry for most of the day, any showers could bring down the temperature a bit, keeping afternoon highs close to 95 degrees.

According to meteorologists, daily highs will stay in the mid- to upper-90s, and overnight lows will stay in the upper 60s to mid-70s. That fits with how things usually are this time of year in Central Texas.

The National Weather Service's Climate Prediction Center says that most of Texas will get more rain than usual in the first half of September, not just over the weekend. September 1 was the first day of fall in the weather, and September 22 will be the autumnal equinox, which marks the beginning of the season in the sky.

For now, Austin residents can look forward to a few more days of dry, hot late-summer weather before the weather changes for the worse next week.
