Shoppers aiming to update their wardrobes in an eco-friendly manner can visit East Austin this weekend for the sixth annual clothing and accessories swap hosted by Austin Swappin’.
The city is preparing for its largest monthly clothing swap, scheduled for Friday, June 6, at Wanderlust Wine Co., located on Shady Lane. Organizers are anticipating a significant turnout for this popular event. Check-in is scheduled to commence at 9:30 a.m., while the official swap will begin at 11 a.m. Participants are encouraged to arrive early. Individuals can exchange gently used items for new-to-them finds, helping reduce textile waste while supporting local nonprofit initiatives. Organizers report that the event is experiencing significant growth, driven by a growing number of residents seeking affordable and environmentally friendly shopping options.
Attendees can participate in a clothing swap event for a $10 admission fee, provided they bring at least 10 qualifying items. Acceptable items for exchange include clothing, shoes, jewelry, accessories, books, home décor, arts and crafts supplies, and unopened beauty products. Products will be offered for women, men, and children.
Organizers stress the importance of ensuring that all items are clean and in good condition, free from stains, holes, or excessive wear. All participants aged 10 or older are required to bring at least 10 acceptable items and possess an individual ticket to participate.
Alongside the swap, the event will showcase a variety of activities, including giveaways, a photo booth, and selections from local vendors. Attendees can look forward to enjoying matcha drinks from Sloburn and food offerings from Gliders ATX.
Following the swap's conclusion, nonprofit Thrift-ish is set to hold a $10 fill-a-bag sale featuring unsold items. Organizers have announced that all remaining donations will be directed to the organization, thereby enhancing the event's impact on the community.
Tickets are available for $10 when purchased in advance. For those seeking admission on the day of the event, the cost will increase to $15, starting at 9:30 a.m. The event, which started as a modest community gathering, has evolved into one of Austin's most significant sustainability-focused occasions, attracting hundreds of participants each month. Organizers have outlined a straightforward objective: to give clothing a second life while helping residents save money and minimize waste.
Organizers emphasized the importance of community and sustainability, highlighting the ongoing demand for accessible and eco-friendly shopping alternatives.
