With severe thunderstorms threatening Central Texas Friday, including the risk of tornadoes, 70 mph wind gusts, and baseball-sized hail, several local school districts have adjusted their schedules for safety.
The National Weather Service has placed much of the area under a severe thunderstorm watch, including Travis and Williamson counties—the main threats: damaging winds and massive hail.
Here’s the latest list of school schedule changes in response:
Austin ISD
All after-school activities canceled districtwide.
Hutto ISD
Elementary schools: Release at 1:30 p.m.
Middle schools: Release at 2:20 p.m.
Ninth Grade Center & Hutto High School: Release at 3 p.m.
After-school activities canceled.
Buses are running 1.5 hours early across the district.
Round Rock ISD
All after-school activities canceled districtwide.
Georgetown ISD
High schools: Early release at 1:45 p.m.
Middle schools: Release at 2:10 p.m.
Elementary schools: No change; release on regular schedule at 3 p.m.
Residents are urged to stay weather-aware through Friday evening as storms develop, and to check with individual schools for any additional updates.
