Authorities in San Antonio have reported that their investigation into the fatal shooting of actor Jonathan Joss has not uncovered any evidence suggesting that the incident was driven by hate. This comes in response to a viral statement from Joss's husband, who alleged that the attack was homophobic.
Joss, recognized for his role as the voice of John Redcorn in the animated series King of the Hill, was shot multiple times on Sunday evening in proximity to the location of his previous residence, which was destroyed by fire in January. A fatal incident occurred, resulting in the individual being pronounced dead at the scene. Tristan Kern de Gonzales, the husband of the couple, reported that they had returned to their property to retrieve their mail when they made a heartbreaking discovery: the skull and harness of one of their dogs. This find served as a tragic reminder of the fire that had also taken the lives of their beloved pets.
In a detailed Facebook post, Gonzales recounted a confrontation in which a man allegedly approached them, shouted homophobic slurs, and subsequently opened fire. “Jonathan pushed me out of the way,” he stated. “He was instrumental in preserving my life.”
Authorities have apprehended 56-year-old Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, who now faces murder charges. In a statement released on Monday, the San Antonio Police Department addressed the ongoing investigation into the murder of Mr. Joss. The department noted, “Despite online claims of this being a hate crime, currently the investigation has found no evidence to indicate that Mr. Joss’s murder was related to his sexual orientation.”
The department emphasized its commitment to addressing these allegations with the utmost seriousness and confirmed that the investigation will proceed without interruption. The statement indicated that if new evidence emerges, the suspect will face charges as appropriate.
Gonzales’s account detailed a history of threats, including previous warnings about the possibility of someone setting fire to their residence. He stated that the threats had been communicated to law enforcement, yet no action was taken.
Joss, 59, leaves behind a notable legacy in the entertainment industry, with a portfolio that includes acclaimed roles in Parks and Recreation, Tulsa King, and Ray Donovan. The individual gained recognition for his voice performances in popular video games, including Red Dead Redemption and Wasteland 3.
The unexpected passing of the individual, coupled with the differing accounts regarding the motive, has left fans and the acting community in a state of disbelief. The inquiry continues to be ongoing.
