An alternative LGBTQ+ celebration in Austin is scheduled to return as Pride Month gets underway, with an emphasis on community-driven programming and grassroots advocacy.

The annual volunteer-organized "anti-corporate" Pride celebration, Queerbomb, will be held at Inn Cahoots on East Sixth Street on June 7. The occasion provides an alternative to the customary Pride festivities, which some locals claim have grown more commercialized.

The event's organizers stated that it rejects institutional influence and corporate sponsorships in favor of elevating LGBTQ voices. In the past, Queerbomb has turned down donations from large companies to remain independent.

The event's main program, which includes a rally with local speakers, will start at 7 p.m. after a resource fair and talent showcase at 2 p.m. Real Talk Fur All creator Po, novelist Oraiah Mariposa Ximénez, and OutWellness founder Dr. Syd Young are among the speakers scheduled.

Around 8:15 p.m., participants are anticipated to march down Sixth Street. Organizers, in a social media post, called the route "the straightest street in Austin." An afterparty is planned for around 9:30 p.m. after the march. This year is the 16th non-consecutive year of the tournament. Queerbomb is going back to its original format, according to organizers, following changes made in 2025 due to practical difficulties.

Pride Month honors the LGBTQ+ community's ongoing struggle for civil rights and has its origins in the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City, which led to the first Pride marches in 1970.

The goal of Queerbomb, according to its organizers, is to pay tribute to that legacy while establishing a forum for community expression apart from corporate-sponsored festivities.
