A Texas Longhorns football player has been arrested in Austin on charges of driving while intoxicated, marking a significant legal issue for the athlete.

Early Sunday morning, April 27, freshman offensive lineman Nicolai "Nick" Brooks, who plays for the University of Texas football team, was apprehended by the Travis County Sheriff's Office.

According to official records, Brooks was admitted to the county jail at 3:43 a.m. and released on a personal recognizance bond later that same day. A formal charge of DWI has been filed against him.

An 18-year-old lineman has officially joined the Longhorns for the current season, becoming a key addition to head coach Steve Sarkisian’s 2024 recruiting class.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Coach Sarkisian commented on the incident involving Nick Brooks, stating, "We’re aware of the situation with Nick Brooks, have talked with him and are gathering information." The organization has indicated that it will maintain oversight of the legal proceedings and respond to the situation internally at the appropriate moment.

No further disciplinary measures have been disclosed at this time. However, Brooks may encounter repercussions from the legal system and the Texas football program.

The recent arrest presents an additional off-field challenge for the Longhorns as they gear up for the forthcoming season. In recent years, the athletic department at UT has maintained a firm approach regarding player conduct, frequently addressing legal matters with penalties imposed by the team.

Brooks, from Iowa, emerged as a prominent recruit recognized for his impressive size and strength on the offensive line. However, the player's future with the team hangs in the balance as legal proceedings continue to develop.

This story unfolds, and further updates will be shared as additional information is obtained.
