Kobi Elisha, a local locksmith with over a decade of experience, reports a significant decline in his previously outstanding five-star rating on Google. He attributes this drop to what he suspects is a deliberate effort involving fraudulent one-star reviews over the past year and a half.
“I conduct all business operations accurately.” “I provide exceptional customer service,” stated Elisha, a native of Israel. He reported that the attacks intensified following the October 7, 2023, incident involving Israel, noting that he was met with a barrage of critical reviews upon waking up that morning. “One after one, one after one,” he stated.
Numerous negative posts, often vague and strikingly similar, have emerged, accusing the company of incompetence and advising customers to steer clear of the business. Despite utilizing Google Guaranteed, a platform designed to showcase verified businesses, Elisha reports ongoing difficulties in obtaining assistance. Numerous attempts to reach Google through calls and emails have resulted in extended wait times and minimal resolutions. In the interim, the influx of reviews now numbering in the hundreds deterring genuine customers.
Whenever I reach out to Google, their response is to direct me to send an email. Elisha reported, “I sent them an email, and they responded, ‘Wait two weeks.’” “The genuine clientele is aware of all the unfavorable reviews.”
Devin Benavides, representing the Better Business Bureau Serving the Heart of Texas, stated that Elisha's situation is not uncommon. Benavides expressed skepticism, saying, “This is fake,” as he highlighted the alarming trend of numerous negative reviews emerging within days. Experts are raising alarms about the increasing prevalence of fake reviews, which are often generated by scammers or rival businesses.
Benavides has called on businesses impacted by fake reviews to respond with composure by issuing statements recognizing the issue. He emphasized the importance of reporting suspicious activity through the appropriate official channels and advised thorough documentation of all related incidents. She encourages consumers to investigate further: “Examine the reviews, but do not treat them as absolute truth.” Further investigation is advised.
