Texas Longhorns baseball continued its offensive surge Saturday night, defeating Tarleton State Texans 16-2 in NCAA regional play.
The Longhorns erupted for 16 runs on five home runs, avenging an earlier season loss to Tarleton State. The Texans defeated Texas 6-1 in March at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, but Saturday’s rematch saw a vastly different outcome.
Texas wasted little time taking control, launching three consecutive home runs in the second inning. Aiden Robbins, Carson Tinney and Anthony Pack Jr. went back-to-back-to-back to break the game open early. Robbins and Pack each added another home run, continuing their strong performances after contributing to the team’s 19-1 win over Holy Cross in the regional opener.
Through two games, Texas has scored 35 runs while allowing just three.
Not to be overshadowed by the offense, Texas pitcher Dylan Volantis delivered a strong outing, throwing 6.2 innings with seven strikeouts. He allowed just one run on three hits, marking his longest appearance since a brief outing during the Southeastern Conference baseball tournament.
The combination of explosive hitting and effective pitching has positioned Texas as a strong contender in the regional round.
Texas will next face the winner of the matchup between UC Santa Barbara and Tarleton State on Sunday at 5 p.m. as the team looks to continue its postseason run.
