People who like tacos in South Austin are in for a treat: This August, one of Austin's best taquerias, Taqueria de Diez, will open a new site on South Lamar Boulevard. Raul and Luis Esquer, along with Roy Servan, opened the popular taco shop. It is now moving to 2110 S. Lamar Blvd., where Aviary Wine & Kitchen used to be before.
The menu at the new location will be the same as the famed original in downtown Austin, which opened in 2024 and quickly became the #1 taqueria in the Statesman's list of the Top 20 taquerias. People can enjoy special tacos made in the style of Tijuana, such as al pastor with pineapple for a sweet touch, and spicy carne asada with cilantro, onion, and guacamole on fresh, in-house-made corn or flour tortillas.
The downtown location is more like a speakeasy, sharing space with a bar. The South Lamar site, on the other hand, will have its bar serving beer and frozen margaritas. The new taco shop will be open every day for lunch and dinner. On Thursdays through Saturdays, it will be open until 1 a.m., offering South Austin residents a rare late-night taco option.
When Taqueria de Diez opened, it was a significant development for South Austin's taco scene, which had been lacking in great taco options for a long time. The space that used to be Aviary had been empty since August 2024, when new owners tried to open it but failed and also closed the Italian restaurant Andiamo.
“We’re excited to bring our tacos to South Austin and share what we love with a new neighborhood,” says Raul Esquer. Fans can expect the same quality and flavors that made the first spot a local favorite.
