Central Texans can expect another spell of summer-like conditions before a short-lived return of fall this weekend.

A dominant high-pressure system in the area is expected to maintain clear skies and elevate temperatures as we move into the first week of November. Forecasters predict that afternoon temperatures will rise daily, reaching the upper 80s to nearly 90 degrees by Friday.

On November 7 and 8, the daily heat records stand at 89 degrees, and Austin’s Camp Mabry station may surpass them if temperatures hit 90 degrees. Such a high temperature is uncommon for this time of year—since 1898, Austin has recorded only 5 November days at 90 degrees.

“Reaching 90 degrees in November is not unprecedented, but it’s definitely not an annual occurrence,” a meteorologist from the National Weather Service remarked on Tuesday.

The recent warm spell follows a series of pleasant, autumn-like days in late October, which swiftly gave way to the usual warmth characteristic of Central Texas. The weather pattern is expected to remain consistent until Friday, when a significant cold front will move into the region, resulting in a sharp decrease in temperatures.

As Monday morning approaches, residents in the Hill Country may experience near-freezing temperatures, signaling the season's initial encounter with winter.

Austinites can look forward to predominantly sunny skies, dry air, and warm afternoons—a last nod to summer's enduring presence in Texas.
